One of the greatest stumbling blocks to people of color’s self-esteem and ability to live happy, more productive lives is the negative emotional programing that comes from living with racism.
This workshop is designed to assist people of color to identify and overcome their internalized oppression so that they can create happier lives and make a difference in their family, community, and nation.
Internalized Oppression: What Is It?
Internalized oppression is a phenomenon that occurs when a group of people is bombarded with gross misinformation and is systematically mistreated over a long period of time. Members of the targeted group internalize the misinformation and the hurtful behavior and turn upon themselves, their family members, and other people of their group. The dominant group then uses the internalized oppression to justify further mistreatment of the targeted group.
